When I go to:
http://new.hbclp.com/administrator/components/com_akeeba/restore.php I get following error message:
###{"status":false,"message":"Invalid login"}###

I have read the backup-guide, looked at "obvious tickets", searched for above error message, no joy.

What exactly are you trying to do? I don't understand why you are trying to call that file directly.

My goal is to transfer our Joomla site from one cpanel based host to another.

Used Akeebabackup on site 1 to create a backup file, I transferred the file to site 2.

Site 2 has Professional edition of Akeebabackup.

P 69 of the backup-guiede talks about administrator/components/com_akeeba/restore.php

What is proper way to initiate the Integrated restoration feature on site 2?

Your website states the pro version provides "Restore your backup files from within the component", I don't see a "Restore button", perhaps that's the problem?

dlb
I thought that was what you were trying to do, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how you got there. I think maybe there is a step missing in the instructions. :-)

You are going to start from the Administer Backups screen. You can only use the internal restore with a backup listed there. If your backup is not listed, and I don't think it is, use the Discover and Import Archives instructions on page 71.

Next select the backup with the checkbox on the left side, the click the Restore button at the top. That should put you back on track to do your restore.

The instructions about the restore.php file would be useful if you are using additional protection for your back end files, such as a custom .htaccess file.

Dale: You solved my restore problem. Looks like I have a bigger problem. Post restore, my website is flooded with "Strict Standards: Only variables should be assigned by reference in" php error messages. I am guessing the shared web-hosting system at Name.com is not Joomla friendly.

UPDATE: those strict standards errors disappeared when I changed error reporting level to 'none' in the joomla administrator > global configuration.

You have a happy customer. Thank you for your help.

PS: I recommend you drop the free version of Akeebabackup, your fee for the pro version is very reasonable. Instructions for the free version is what caused some of my confusion regarding how to restore our site -- my hardheadedness was the bulk of the problem.

dlb
Yes, those are warninig messages that can be ignored, and setting the reporting level to "none" does exactly that.

I'm glad your restore worked out and you are welcome!

The free version has its place. I work with a bunch of non-profit groups where money is really tight. Every dollar that they spend on their website is a dollar they can't spend on their cause. Even a reasonably priced extension that provides great value becomes a difficult decision. In the end it generally becomes a dollar out of my pocket. :-)
